My Gadget Is Better Than Yours

A question I often ask myself, always as a matter of fact, what is my favorite gadget? I test lots of different gadgets, the laptop-sized black shell for the smallest smart phones, and people naturally want to know what is my favorite? The truth is, and it goes against the attitude of the fan community with the gadget lovers, I have no one. I love them all, even those with blatant errors. I honestly do not think my gadget is better than yours. I love your gadgets, too.

I cover gadgets of all types running all of the mobile platforms, and no matter what I may be writing about at a given time I can bet what the first comment to the article will be. “Your platform sucks, mine is better. I can’t believe you’d write about platform X and not mention how platform Y is superior in every way!” That comment will usually appear within just a few minutes of an article getting published. The common mantra of “my gadget is better than yours” is rampant on the web.

If I write one of the products Apple bashers come out in droves. To say that it is love or hate Apple is certainly true on the Web is the middle ground. People Android in particular is becoming very vocal in the club I hate Apple.

Apple fans are no better, I want to write an article on another platform and the nay-sayers come in a crowd. It is as if the mood determines that because Apple products are much better than anything else, how dare you write about something other than Apple products? It is so regular that's funny.

I understand how mobile devices can become almost a religious experience, are very personal in nature, and people spend a lot of time with them in your hand are very close to them. Yet, people should look objectively competition, because every device and platform has strengths. It is not always clear in advance and must always learn from others.

I love gadgets of any brand and type, and the pleasure of seeing how they do things differently. That's how I learn what works best for me, keeping my eyes open. It's amazing how much you can learn things when you placed "my widget is better than yours" mentality. It's all good in the mobile space.
